Melvin Johnson III
Melvin Johnson III (born May 20, 1990) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Raptors 905 of the NBA Developmental League. He played his college basketball at UTSA and Arkansas State.
== College career ==
In his freshman season at UTSA, Johnson played in 28 games (0 starts) and averaged 7.7 points, 1.71 rebounds, and 0.2 assists while shooting 38.9% from the field, 42.5% from 3, and 86.5 from the free throw line. Johnson won the Southland Freshman of the Year award for the UTSA Roadrunners.〔http://basketball.realgm.com/player/Melvin-Johnson-III/Summary/22099〕 As a sophomore, he played in 34 games (21 starts) and averaged 14.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 0.6 assists while shooting 41.7% from the field, 37% from 3, and 85.9% from the free throw line. Johnson earned Southland Honorable Mention honors after the season. In his junior year, he played in 30 games (22 starts) and averaged 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 46.3% from the field, 43.4% from 3, and 83.9 from the line. Johnson earned All-Southland Conference Third Team honors after the season. On June 7, 2012, Johnson announced that he was transferring to Arkansas State University to play for the Red Wolves. As a senior at Arkansas State, Johnson was a key contributor for the Red Wolves. He averaged 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists while shooting 47.3% from the field, 47.8% from 3, and 75.9% from the free throw line.
